Dr. Lisa Johnson, Practice Owner/Director, DPT

Dr. Lisa Johnson received her Baccalaureate degree in Physical Therapy from Stony Brook University, and immediately began practicing in the area of outpatient sports and orthopedics. She earned a Master of Science degree from Touro College and a Post-Professional Clinical Doctorate from Stony Brook University. She holds the distinction of dual certification by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics, as well as Women’s Health Physical Therapy. She has served on the Specialization Academy of Content Experts and the Women’s Health Specialty Council for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Dr. Johnson is also certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and is a certified Pilates Instructor.

Dr. Johnson founded Body In Balance Physical Therapy, a private practice specializing in the comprehensive treatment of orthopedic, sports, and pelvic floor/ women’s health related conditions, where she practiced for 13 years. During that time she worked with a diverse patient population including athletes from high school to professional levels, and performers on Broadway including the cast of Lion King, FootLoose and Swing. Dr. Johnson served on the faculty at Stony Brook University for sixteen years, teaching in the Physical Therapy Doctorate Programs, and served as Coordinator of Women’s Health Services at Southampton Hospital in New York, where she developed Men/Women’s pelvic floor related rehabilitation services. After moving to Sarasota from New York, Dr. Johnson joined the outpatient physical therapy staff at Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System until she founded Total Body Physical Therapy, a boutique-style practice specializing in the hands-on, manual therapy treatment of complex musculoskeletal conditions and men/women’s pelvic floor dysfunctions.

In addition to lecturing for academia, Dr. Johnson has taught continuing education for therapists, and lectures for physicians, medical students and other healthcare providers on low back, pelvic pain, and pelvic floor dysfunction. With over 23 years of clinical experience, she is uniquely qualified to integrate multiple facets of manual therapy, fitness, and exercise in her treatment plans. Throughout her career, she has maintained a philosophy of treating the whole patient in order to achieve and maintain a healthy, balanced body.
